Pickling vegetables is a great way to preserve and get the benefits from fermented food.  Good bacteria changes a cucumber into a pickle, and other vegetables can be pickled too.  My boys love dill picked beans and carrots.  

Dill Brine:

2 cups of water

2 1/2 cups of distilled white vinegar

3 cloves of garlic

1/4 cup salt

1 tsp dry dill

Sterilize jars and lids by boiling in hot water or steaming for 10 minutes.  Pack jars with fresh dill sprig and vegetable of choice (onions, cauliflower, asparagus, cucumber, beans, carrots, zucchini).  Make sure they are packed tight, so the vegetables don't float to the top and risk being exposed to the air gap at the top of the jar.  Bring brine to a boil and add to jars (1/8 of an inch from the top).  Your pickled vegetables should be ready in 4-6 weeks.  Make sure you place them in a cool, dark place.

 In some way, your digestion has been compromised.  Some causes can be:

*  low HCL acid in the stomach

*  pancreas produces low bicarbonate secretion

*  small intestine has low sugar-digesting enzyme production

*  imbalanced intestinal flora

*  intestinal flora enjoying undigested foods

*  chronic over-eating

*  low bile flow, so foods are not emulsified

*  enzyme deficient or low enzyme production

Hydrochloric acid actually comes from your blood (hydrogen and chloride).  After chewing and mixing food with saliva, the enzymes within the saliva begin their digestive activity.  These enzymes continue to work in the stomach after swallowing food, which is an alkaline environment until the HCL acid arrives in approximately 45-60 minutes.  HCL acid will neutralize the saliva enzymes and this is when other digestive enzymes take over in a more acidic environment.  What does HCL acid do? A complete protein contains 9 essential amino acids, which animal meat, eggs, soybean and dairy provides. What if you are vegetarian, vegan or reducing your meat consumption? Vegetables, grains, nuts and seeds contain protein, but enough to be complete. In order to get all 9 essential amino acids, you need to food combine. Legumes, lentils, peas or corn combined with brown rice, quinoa or other grains. For example, peanut butter (legume) on whole wheat bread or rice and black beans.

I have created a beautiful combination of quinoa and peas in a mushroom broth. Mushrooms have great immune boosting properties. Quarter mushrooms and cook at medium heat in butter and coconut oil.  Did you know that 50-60% of women are prone to getting a urinary tract infection (UTI)  in their lifetime? Biochemist Dr. Roger Williams states that a multivitamin and mineral supplement is an "insurance formula" for plausible deficiencies.  He continues to explain that even healthy people should use them.  You buy car insurance and house insurance for a 'just in case' scenario.  It is important to 'invest in yourself' just as much as you invest in your 'stuff'.  I'm not saying an individual will become deficient if they are not taking a supplement, its just an insurance policy.  A good quality vitamin is one that comes from a good source, pure ingredients and without fillers.  There are different multivitamin because every individual has different requirements.  For example, my mom needs eye, cognitive, bone and immune support (this particular supplement is manufactured by Pure Encapsulations).  Some people may be on blood thinners, including Aspirin, therefore should not have a multivitamin that contains vitamin K and other botanicals.  For individuals on blood thinners, I recommend Genes...

 With IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome), the complete hollow gastrointestinal (GI) tract is involved in this motility disorder, which is the inability of fluid and organisms to move.  IBS isn't an inflammatory condition, but can cause inflammation.  The symptoms of flatulence usually indicating indigestion, abdominal pain and bowel function alternating from constipation to diarrhea, just constipation or just diarrhea.  Low intake of fibre holds accountability for part of this problem and poor digestion is another part.  The gut becomes inflamed and is hyper-intensive when these two aforementioned problems are coupled together.  You can tell there is inflammation from mucous in the stool.  Inflammation and poor digestion together gives a good indication for dysbiosis.

Homemade doesn't take as much time as you think. Natural, whole foods made at home taste so much better and you can control what goes into your body.

Peel up lots of sweet potato and rough cut them into long strips. Put them into a mixing bowl. Chop up 2 tbsp of fresh rosemary. Add it to the bowl of potato along with a pinch of Himalayan salt and olive oil. Toss everything together and put on a baking sheet. Any extra can go in the fridge, up to 5 days, for another meal. Cook in the oven 300F for 50 minutes or until done. Don't forget to turn them over after 25 minutes.

Sweet potato is low on the glycemic index, full of soluble fibre and minerals. Rosemary is a great liver detoxer. Olive oil is an essential fatty acid and antioxidant

 Make sure you don't hear it over 300F or it will change the composition of the oil to not being beneficial.

Your body is self-healing with the proper nutrients.  By making constant adjustments, your body stays in balance (homeostasis). Like the saying "with every action, there is an opposite and equal reaction", as hormones speed up or slow down metabolism and muscle contractions can speed you up or slow you down.  Symptoms appear when the body isn't in homeostasis and this is when your body needs your help.  If you continue to ignore symptoms by masking the problem (the band aid effect), then the symptoms will eventually turn into something more serious:
